Delta State University Athletics
Delta State University is an NCAA Division II School. Teams compete in the Gulf South Conference and in the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference. Men’s sports include football, basketball, baseball, swimming, diving, tennis, soccer, and golf. Women’s sports include basketball, tennis, softball (fast-pitch), cross country, swimming, soccer, and diving… The sports teams are supported by a spirit squad, which includes cheerleaders and a marching band. The team nick-name is the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen.
Athletic facilities at Delta State University include a football field, a coliseum, a softball field, several different areas for baseball, and an aquatic center. A newly completed student performance center includes weight rooms, academic labs, and offices for the athletic department.
The Delta State Statesmen support 13 sports teams who compete in the NCAA’s Division II, the Gulf South Conference, and the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference. Men’s sports include football, basketball, baseball, swimming, diving, tennis, soccer, and golf. Women’s sports include basketball, tennis, softball, cross country, swimming & diving, and soccer. The Statesman football team competes in Travis E. Parker field, where they have a 94-62-7 overall record since its completion in 1970. The stadium is undergoing regular cosmetic repair, but is in as good a shape as it was the day it opened 35 years ago. The Walter Sillers Coliseum is home to Statesmen basketball and Lady Statesman basketball. Sillers Coliseum can seat 4,00 and includes 1,000 comfortable, chair-back seats on the mezzanine level. It was opened in 1961 in honor of a longtime friend of Delta State.
